Event Description: Community gardens have a number of positive impacts, which include increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables, improved physical and mental health for gardeners, and helps facilitate social connections that build a sense of community and belonging. For this Lunch & Learn event, we will learn about the work of the Green & Gold Community Garden, which has been operating at the University of Alberta’s South Campus since 2009. We will learn more about its history, mandate, and ways in which it is building a strong community in Edmonton as well as empowering economically marginalized women in Rwanda through its partnership with the Tubahumurize Association.
NOTE: This in-person event is weather dependent. If weather conditions are not ideal, we will shift to a Zoom event online and give everyone a link to join.
GETTING TO THE GREEN & GOLD COMMUNITY GARDEN: The garden is located on the south end of the University Farm on the University of Alberta’s South Campus. If you are driving, take 60 Ave into the University Farm and turn left at the T-intersection with 118 St. Taking public transit? The South Campus LRT station is a 15 minute walk away. The garden is also close to bike and foot paths, and many people walk or cycle to the Garden.
