Join us in our series of free lunchtime talks about social issues and learn about diverse ways to help create a community in which all people are full and valued participants!

When: Thursday, July 21, 2022, @ noon!

Speaker: Vernon Boldick, Promotions and Communications Coordinator

Summary: The discussion will be around best practices when working with Indigenous youth, and several of the programs that Bent Arrow offers youth. This includes Working Warriors employment opportunities and a community re-integration program for multi-barrier, un or underemployed youth. As well as various housing programs such as Eagles Nest Youth Housing First to support single youth and families aged 16-24 experiencing homelessness; Iskwew House a transitional group home for pregnant and/or parenting teens; and Kokomish House long or short-term and emergency care placement for youth aged 12-18 who have status under Children’s Services. Vernon will also be sharing a new initiative that has been developed in partnership with a local martial arts organization.

Working Warriors is a program for youth between the ages of 16-24.

The project was developed to provide employment opportunities and community re-integration to multi-barriered, unemployed or underemployed youth. Our program nurtures positive change by way of hands on employability skills through work experience placements, life skill enhancement, outreach services and supported educational learning plans.

Eagles Nest Youth Housing First Program is intended to support single youth and families ages 16-24 years old experiencing homelessness with barriers to housing stability that can be addressed by providing housing and connecting the person with existing community supports. It is short-term intervention designed to restore housing stability and assist individuals in doing so as independently as possible.

Iskwew House is an Indigenous based transitional group home for pregnant and/or parenting teens between the ages of 14 and 2.

Kokomish House We provide service to youth aged 12 – 18, who have status under Children’s Services. Our home can lodge long-term, short-term and emergency care placement.
