Join us in our series of free lunchtime talks about social issues and learn about diverse ways to help create a community in which all people are full and valued participants!
When: Thursday, October 13th, @ noon!
Speaker: Delphine Brown, Graduate Student, Department of Sociology, University of Alberta
Larissa Doran, Graduate Student, Department of Sociology, University of Alberta
Summary: Rehabilitation for criminal offenders while ensuring community safety is a balancing act. For this Lunch and Learn, we will learn about recent research conducted by Delphine Brown and Larissa Doran, two graduate students with the University of Alberta’s Department of Sociology. Their research takes a look at the community reintegration of high-risk offenders. For the first half of the presentation, Delphine Brown will discuss the police use of community notifications for high-risk people re-entering the community in Alberta. For the second half of the presentation, Larissa Doran will discuss her research on the ways gender plays a role in the reintegration of women convicted of sexual offences, particiulary how it contributes to a lack of support and resources in community.
